SHREK Jr The Musical (TERM 3, 2017)
WOW! What an amazing performance!
We certainly have some very talented students and teachers.
The four performances were sold out. The feedback from parents and grandparents have been great to hear.
A big you to the staff, students (performers and backstage crew) and parents for making it so successful.
What an amazing event. The BJC Fair could not happen without the wonderful work of a group of dedicated parents and staff.
BJC Fair was led by Emma Coatsworth who has organised and driven a strong team of incredible people ensuring that this outstanding and very successful inaugural BJC Fair happened.
It was a wonderful day with thousands of visitors attending and the weather was certainly on our side.
Thank you all for making this such a memorable day.
BJC COMMUNITY FAIR (2017)
Frankston Japanese Festival - Sunday 17th April (2016)
I'm very excited to announce that Benton has been accepted to participate in the Frankston Japanese Festival on Sunday 17th April at Frankston High School! All information is on the flyer attached (which also went home in the recent newsletter). All families are welcome, however students MUST be supervised by their parents.
We will be advertising the festival during Japanese lessons this week through a colouring competition (click here). Children are welcome to colour in the picture and bring back by Wednesday 13th April: first week back of term 2. There will be a box outside my Japanese room. One winner per year level will be decided and announced on the Friday.
For our first year at the festival, I have opted to do a school display with some information about Japanese at Benton and some photographs. It is set to be a terrific day!

Ride2School Day (2016)
The AIM of National Ride 2 School Day is to encourage more people to be more active more of the time. That includes students, parents and teachers!
Remembering that 'Part Way is OK'. Well done to all of you for being active when coming to school today. Thank you to the teachers and parents who walked along our ACTIVEpaths and who supervised the bike shed parking. We really appreciate your support and participation in today’s event. By riding and walking to school, students contribute to their minimum physical activity level of 60 minutes per day. Research shows that students who ride and walk as part of their journey to school are more focused and ready to learn when compared with those who are driven.
We had a great time as ATAs planning for the day and it was so much fun running all the activities. We were at school at 8am to prepare your delicious fruit platters. A big thank you to Emma (a parent) for helping us cut them up, to Christine our crossing lady for collecting the fruit from Safeway and Coles and to the office staff for assisting with our clean up. Also thanks to Jason from Market Life for donating a LARGE proportion of the fruit. Hopefully you enjoyed your healthy fruit platter.
The helmet decorating competition was a HUGE success! There were so many creative helmets out there – thank you for everyone getting involved. Congratulations to our winners: Tane in 001, Tui in 108, Oliver in 227, Sienna in 323, Sara in 414, Liam in 520 and Lucy in 632.
Our winners received a Jones Cycles drink bottle each and a photo of them and their decorative helmets will be in the next edition of the Mornington News!
The results from the day were: 234 people rode, 156 people skated or scooted, 219 people walked, 3 people took public transport and 136 people took the car.
This means 81% of Benton Junior College children were active on National Ride 2 School Day! Well done everyone! Additionally, congratulations to 006, 229 and 418, for being joint winners of the Active Travel trophy for this month. They all had a HUGE 100% of their class active!
'Battle of the Bands' Production (2015)
Congratulations to all students and staff involved in our 2015 school production 'Battle of the Bands'. Performing over 3 nights (plus an afternoon matinee session!) our students put on an amazing production that fully showcased their singing and acting abilities. It was also an wonderful opportunity for our Senior Choir and College band to perform to a live audience.
Well done to everyone involved and thankyou to the wider school community for attending and supporting this fantastic activity!
Year 3 Endangered Animal Safari (2015)
On Tuesday, 18th August, children in Year Three held their annual Endangered Animal Safari. It was a fantastic afternoon as the students took the opportunity to invite the college community to visit our classrooms and see all of their fantastic work.
During our sessions (both before and after lunch)children in 330 had the opportunity to not only show off their awesome models and information reports, but to also share their knowledge and answer questions from other students, parents and even teachers. Well done Year 3.
Promoting an active lifestyle at B.J.C.
Ride2School / Active Pathways (2015)
At Benton, we want everyone to show their commitment to building a happier and healthier school through riding and walking. To show our commitment to encouraging student active travel and working to reduce the barriers preventing it, our school representatives have signed the Ride2School ActiveTravel Charter.
Benton has been chosen by Ride2School to receive ACTIVEpaths. The ACTIVEpaths initiative is about making it easier for students that want to ride walk, scoot or skate to school. ACTIVEpaths are designated routes to school that have been identified in conjunction with the local council and the school community.
The paths are selected based on identified features such as:

The most direct route

Minimisation of known traffic and bus routes

Locality of good pedestrian infrastructure and
-
Walkable catchments to the school
They are designed to make the journey as clear, popular and fun as possible. This provides the school community a network of routes that allow all students to actively travel at least part of the way on their journey to school.
ANZAC Day @ B.J.C. (2015)
Here’s a snapshot of our recent ANZAC Day ceremony at held at B.J.C. Well done to all children who attended, as well as those who represented the college at the dawn service and march down Main street Mornington.
B.J.C. CROSS COUNTRY (2015)
The wild weather managed to hold off and nearly 600 children got their chance to show off their ever improving running skills during our 2015 Cross Country.
Congratulations to all children who competed in our recent cross country. We wish all of those who qualified for the next stage of competition good luck and we are sure that you will represent the college with distinction.
A big thankyou to Mr Hogarth and all of the teachers (especially those who ran with the kids!) for helping make the morning such a success. Awesome stuff!
